MSDir. Prof. Mag. Dr. Friedrich Pfatschbacher
Prof. Dr. Friedrich Pfatschbacher wurde in Steyr (OÖ) geboren. Er studierte an der Musikhochschule Graz bei dem ehemaligen Soloklarinettisten der Wr. Symphoniker, Prof. Alfred Rosé, Klarinette. Von 1995 bis 2024 leitete er die Musikschule Mautern im Liesingtal. 2004 absolvierte er in Musikwissenschaft an der KFU Graz sein Doktoratsstudium. Er war jehrelang Solo-Klarinettist bei der Werkskapelle Donawitz sowie Juror und Prüfer des Steirischen Blasmusikverbandes. Er gründete u.a. das renommierte Klarinetten-Quintett "Ensemble-Woodwind", mit dem er seit 2003 im In- und Ausland konzertiert (Konzerte in Ägypten, Polen, Irland, China Tournee 2008 …) Er ist Gründer (2006) der Österreichischen Klarinettengesellschaft und seit 2007 Chefdirigent des Klarinettenchors. Seit 2012 vertritt Pfatschbacher auch als Repräsentant (National Chairperson) der International Clarinet Association (ICA) die Interessen der Klarinettisten in Österreich. 2013 wurde ihm der Berufstitel "Professor" vom Bundespräsidenten verliehen. Seit 2014 hält er weltweit Vorträge und Meisterkurse (Masterclasses) wie bspw. in Europa (Italien, Spanien, Portugal), USA, Mexico, Südamerika, Südafrika, Australien...

Dr. Pfatschbacher studied clarinet under Professor Alfred Rosé (Vienna Symphony Orchestra) at the Graz College of Music. Postgraduate Studies (1999-2004) “Musicology” with Univ. Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Suppan at the Graz University. Graduation "Doctor of Philosophy”. Clarinet soloist with the Wind Band Donawitz/Styria since 2003. Director of Music and Teacher for Clarinet at the Mautern Music School. Participation at the National Competition for Wind and Percussion Ensembles 2002 with excellent success. He has performed regularly as a soloist and in chamber ensembles. Founder of the Clarinet Ensemble "Woodwind". Since 2006 Founder and President of the Austrian Clarinet Society. Since 2007 Chief Conductor of the Austrian Clarinet Choir and 2012 national chairperson for the I.C.A. (International Clarinet Association). 2013 he was appointed professor from the President of Austria. Since 2014 he gives lectures and masterclasses (clarinet choir workshops) at home and abroad (USA, Mexico, South America, South Africa, Australia...).
